Painted Hills is one of the three units of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, located in Wheeler County. It totals 3,132 acres and is located 9 miles northwest of Mitchell, Oregon. The Painted Hills are listed as one of the Seven Wonders of Oregon. Painted Hills is named after the colorful layers of its hills corresponding to various geological eras, formed when the area was an ancient river floodplain.

I've been to painted hills. Great place to visit. If you can....try and hit the mountains and beaches.

I think I have answered a previous question to you if you've been to Painted Hills. This is awesome; definitely will be placed on top of my list! My hardest decision now will be whether to spend my week traveling along the coastline or eastward towards the mountain and the hills. Your image of Trillium Lake is so very inviting. Ahhh..... so many places to photograph, so little time... LOL. Many thanks for sharing your wonderful images of Portland with the rest of us.
